OUR PLACE IN THE WORLD
As a founding member of leading international organizations such as the United Nations, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, and as an early member of the NATO and the Council of Europe; Turkey has a deeply rooted, established standing in the international community as an EU candidate country in a highly geostrategic position.
As NATO’s second-largest military force, Turkey plays a crucial role in defending NATO’s eastern flank by protecting the Bosphorus Strait between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. It is one of the most significant contributors to NATO missions and antiterrorism operations, while also hosting the alliance’s headquarters for land forces. Turkey attaches the utmost importance to NATO’s role in maintaining security and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area and upholding common values of the alliance.
Thanks to its geographical position, that even contains the geometric center point of all land surfaces on Earth, Turkey offers fast and convenient transport to more than 150 destinations around the world within a flight time of three hours.
